nypl:
A librarian’s work is never done! How could it be, when there is so much information to share? Today’s image is brought to you by Roosevelt Island Library and gives you a brief snapshot behind-the-scenes. The black and white photo is awesome and we’re pretty stoked about the stamp right above it. (We like stamps and stamp pads, though find little reason to use them over here in Tumblr-territory)
So, in honor of today’s photo, which (as you know) is on exhibition at Mid-Manhattan Library… put your stamp of approval on one of our letters speaking out against the $47 million budget cut proposed for NYPL.
Brentwood Library, Tennessee
Amazing.
New favorite thing: Holding up books for no reason.
Send me a photo of you holding up a book you like (cover forward) and I’ll post it here. ( empire_of_thorns@yahoo.co.uk )
You are more than welcome to hold up books you’ve written.
The more books you hold up at once, the higher up the list I’ll place you.
rules:
1) Books all face forward
2) Only one person holding
3) No photo shop
4) No solid supports (shelves, metal frame etc)
Competition closed - prizes awarded - entries still welcome.
Remember, quality counts as much as quantity. Want to show off your new book? Go for it.
Can you beat Benjamin (pictured above)? Send me an email with you attempt while you’re at it. (rachelkowal@strandbooks.com)Is this the new planking?!
Uncle Walt died on this day in 1892, aged 72…
“This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.”

Not only the great American poet, but also the Great American.
The library bulletin board was being a tease the other day.
The sign got taken down quite quickly. I’m still wondering it if was a staff member or someone looking for a job.
The University of Michigan Law Library is often said to be the “Real Life Hogwarts.” Here’s a few pics….. do you agree?
Let’s just say it probably won’t be done in 140 characters or fewer.
